Impact of preoperative biopsy sampling on severe submucosal fibrosis on endoscopic submucosal dissection for colorectal laterally spreading tumors: a propensity score analysis
2019, Gastrointestinal EndoscopyCitation Excerpt :However, there have been no reports similar to our study design referring to sample size. Selection bias can be reduced by propensity score analysis that can provide unbiased estimations, unless the true confounders related to the outcome are not included in the propensity model.18,27-39 Second, there was no assessment of differences in biopsy sampling methods.
Biological characterization of preclinical Bioluminescent Osteosarcoma Orthotopic Mouse (BOOM) model: A multi-modality approach
2013, Journal of Bone OncologyCitation Excerpt :To our best knowledge, this is the first study that reports the presence of myofibroblasts in an in vivo OS experimental model, as identified by immunoexpression of α-SMA and characteristic ultrastructural features by TEM. Myofibroblasts of the reactive tumor stroma mediate ECM remodeling mainly by active synthesis of extracellular matrix (ECM) components like collagen type I, III, fibronectin, and enzymes like MMPs, urokinase plasminogen activator and fibronectin activation protein [47–50]. Expression of α-SMA in OS cells as seen in this study and others suggest that (a) highly aggressive OS cells may tend to become de-differentiated and pleomorphic [51], and (b) tumor cells may fuse with stromal cells such as myofibroblasts from tumor microenvironment [52].
c-MET expression in myofibroblasts: Role in autocrine activation and prognostic significance in lung adenocarcinoma
2001, American Journal of PathologyCitation Excerpt :An alternative could be to target stromal myofibroblasts per se and inhibit their activation and secretion of HGF. Theoretically, this approach has an advantage because stromal myofibroblasts secrete other tumor-promoting soluble factors, such as vascular endothelial growth factor, TGF-β, matrix metalloprotease-2, and IL-6.69-71,76,77 Moreover, unlike cancer cells, myofibroblasts are genetically stable, and thus less likely to develop drug resistance.
