MOXI Is a Mitochondrial Micropeptide That Enhances Fatty Acid β-Oxidation
2018, Cell ReportsCitation Excerpt :In contrast, co-expression with the endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein sarco/endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase (SERCA) revealed distinct and non-overlapping patterns (Figure 1H). MOXI contains a conserved transmembrane domain comprised of a hydrophobic core that is flanked on both sides by charged amino acid residues (Figure 1A), consistent with sequence determinants of an IMM protein (Stuart and Neupert, 1996). To assess mitochondrial membrane localization, mitochondria were isolated from adult mouse quadriceps muscle and subjected to progressive proteolysis with serial dilutions of proteinase K (PK) (Figure 2A).
TMEM126A is a mitochondrial located mRNA (MLR) protein of the mitochondrial inner membrane
2013, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - General SubjectsCitation Excerpt :This prompted us to hypothesize that the aa56 to 86 contain crucial mitochondrial targeting information and may be the TMEM126A topogenic signal that determines the final orientation in the membrane. Typical mitochondrial IM proteins have an amino-terminal MTS, are generally imported across both the mitochondrial OM and IM in a mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP-dependent manner, and are mediated by the translocases of the OM and IM [61]. The IM import mechanism of TMEM126A remains to be deciphered.
Analysis of dinoflagellate mitochondrial protein sorting signals indicates a highly stable protein targeting system across eukaryotic diversity
2011, Journal of Molecular BiologyCitation Excerpt :The second type of mitochondrial protein sorting signals, the internal targeting signals, are typically found in hydrophobic carrier proteins of the inner mitochondrial membrane. Internal signals can also direct proteins to the outer mitochondrial membrane and intermembrane space.20–23 Very little is known about the nature of these signals; thus, predictive tools for identifying them do not exist.11
YidC: A Protein with Multiple Functions in Bacterial Membrane Biogenesis
2007, EnzymesCitation Excerpt :Other proteins that require Oxa1p for efficient insertion into the mitochondrial inner membrane are Oxa1p itself, Cox1, Cox3, cytochrome b, and ATP6 [16]. The Oxa1-dependent pathway has been coined the “conservative pathway” because some of the insertion requirements for membrane proteins inserting from the matrix into the inner membrane of mitochondria are analogous to those in bacterial membrane insertion from the cytoplasm into the inner membrane [17, 18]. These Oxa1-dependent proteins include nuclearly encoded proteins that are imported from the cytoplasm into the mitochondrial matrix, then inserted into the inner membrane.
