Paenibacillus polymyxa bacteria form intricate patterns while spreading across surfaces in a collective movement known as swarming. In this image, from the authors of Voichek et al., 2020, P. polymyxa were inoculated in the center of the agar plates, supplemented with a surfactant (Tyloxapol) and stained with methylene blue for visualization.
